Viewpointe Expands Check 21 Offering

VIEWPOINTE EXPANDS "CHECK 21" SERVICE OPTIONS FOR FINANCIAL INDUSTRY
Opens New Options for Banks Wanting to Exchange Check Images with Viewpointe Customers

May 18, 2004, Charlotte, NC: Viewpointe, a leading provider of image services for the financial industry, announced today it is expanding its service offering to enable financial institutions to electronically share and exchange check images and information directly with the Viewpointe customer base.

The move creates a unique image exchange network that marries internal and external image exchange capabilities with the largest national archive infrastructure. The new services open savings opportunities for banks that are not currently Viewpointe archive customers, enabling them to take part in various levels of exchange and sharing activities directly with existing Viewpointe customers.

“Our clear mission is to help this industry move from a paper-based payments system to an electronic payments system, faster and more efficiently,” said John Lettko, Viewpointe Chairman and CEO. “These unparalleled services extend the benefits of image sharing outside our existing customer network and provide ways for financial institutions to get involved in image exchange even faster.”

Viewpointe customers process and store over 22 billion check images a year - 12 billion are eligible for image sharing or exchange. Viewpointe customers include: Bank of America, BB&T, First Tennessee, FleetBoston Financial, JP Morgan Chase & Co, HSBC Bank USA, SunTrust, US Bancorp, National City, and Zions Bancorporation.

Viewpointe’s expanded Check 21 service options will include:

Direct Image Send and Receive: Banks and bank processors electronically send and receive check images directly to Viewpointe that are common with Viewpointe customers
ImageShare™: Banks and bank processors electronically send check images that are common with Viewpointe customers to Viewpointe. Viewpointe in turn collects images bound for the bank(s) and stores them in them in the archive where they can be retrieved on demand by the bank.
All Transit – Share and Exchange: Banks and bank processors can electronically send all of their transit check images to Viewpointe. Viewpointe will collect images bound for the sending bank and store them in the archive where they can be retrieved on demand. Viewpointe then becomes the exchange network provider for the remaining transit images bound for banks outside the Viewpointe environment.
All Items – Share and Exchange: Banks electronically send all of their on-us and transit check images to Viewpointe. The banks utilize Viewpointe for sharing and external exchange and optionally decide to maintain an in-house archive for “on us” items and use Viewpointe as disaster recovery for their “on-us” items.
“In the banking world, one size does not fit all,” commented Jerry Chambers, Chief Administrative Officer for Viewpointe. “We have created these new services to help banks with their move to image exchange.” Chambers added, Check 21 is clearly going to be an evolutionary process. These services provide a migration path for banks interested upgrading their archive technology at their own pace.”
